Sky news covers ongoing quarterly projects
In the picturesque town of Schildgen, a unique joint counseling office has been serving the community for the past 20 years. This ecumenical collaboration between Caritas and Diakonie volunteers is a beacon of hope in the Archdiocese of Cologne, setting it apart as a special gem.
Across the globe, in the heart of South Sudan, Father Stephan has been dedicating his time and energy to lively and joyful services for over 1,000 children and youth. His commitment spans several decades, with Father Stephan making regular trips to the region since the 1990s. His initiative, the IPS, extends to the Nubian Mountains, where he continues to make a significant impact.
In a bid to empower disadvantaged mothers, particularly single mothers with more than five children, beekeeping in Cameroon offers an alternative source of income. This project, supported by Himmel un Ääd, has seen remarkable success. The participants have experienced increased independence, higher honey yields, and resulting income, transforming their lives for the better.
German teacher and beekeeper, Josue Damatal, has been training women to become beekeepers in Cameroon since 2019. His efforts, along with the support from Himmel un Ääd, have been instrumental in the project's success.
The H&A team, in their commitment to local and global social causes, publishes a statement every quarter about a local project and one from the 'One World'. Currently, they are highlighting four projects: a project supporting hungry children in Rhein-Berg, beekeeping for women in Cameroon, educational initiatives in South Sudan, and counseling services in Schildgen.
Each morning at 7:07 AM, the H&A team sends a local news overview to keep the community informed. The team also relies on benefit actions, tips from café guests, and collected donations to support these projects at the end of each quarter.
Recently, Father Stephan shared brief moving passages from his over 50 books during a talk. The event was well-attended, with an active exchange between the guests and Father Stephan following his talk. The occasion also saw representatives of the Catholic Youth Agency (kja) and One World association 'Horizontes' receiving donation checks of €2,950 each for their respective projects.
The 'Hole in the Stomach' project by kja aims to provide food and healthy snacks for hungry children and young people in their centers. Father Stephan's visits to people and projects supported by his initiative in South Sudan further underscore his unwavering dedication.
It's worth noting that the joint counseling office in Schildgen/Katterbach is financed exclusively by donations from Schildgen residents. The office's success is a testament to the generosity and compassion of the local community.
Father Stephan, the last 91-year-old Cistercian monk from the Abbey of Himmerod in the Eifel, gave a report about his decades-long commitment in South Sudan. His inspiring work continues to resonate, serving as a reminder of the transformative power of dedication and compassion.
