Students Sharpen Interview Skills with Mentors in Successful Pilot Project
Eleven seasoned mentors from diverse backgrounds recently served as sparring partners for students in the 'Fit for the Job Interview' training programme. Seven vocational schools from the city and a local organisation joined forces to make this project a success. Students from BÜA classes at regional vocational schools honed their interview skills via video for three weeks.
The Berufspatenprojekt, which organised the event in collaboration with the youth employment service and the Chamber of Crafts Kassel, aimed to prepare students for real-life job interviews. Participants could schedule appointments with fictional companies through an online booking portal. However, the project encountered initial technical hurdles and scheduling conflicts.
Despite these challenges, the initiative proved beneficial. Students received feedback and tips for future job application activities after each mock interview. All parties involved agreed that the project should continue next year. The project coordinators, Brigitte Vogler, are eager to welcome more life and work-experienced volunteers to mentor young people starting their careers. The 'Fit for the Job Interview' training programme, supported by the Berufspatenprojekt, equipped students with valuable interview skills and insights. With positive feedback and a consensus to continue the project, it is set to benefit more young people in the coming years.
