Summer reading club at local library temporarily shut down during summer holidays
The "Summer Vacation Reading Club" is a statewide initiative aimed at inspiring young readers between the ages of 10 and 14. This regular event, which has been running for over a decade, was jointly designed by the State Specialist Office for Public Library Work at the Bavarian State Library and the Bavarian Library Association.
The club's primary goal is to encourage "reluctant readers" to pick up a book every summer. To make the experience more engaging, a stamp is collected for each book read in the summer journal. These stamps not only track the reading progress but also serve as entries for the prize draw at the closing event.
Regional sponsors provide attractive prizes for the draw, adding an element of excitement to the club. The closing event, scheduled for September 19, 2025, marks the end of the summer reading season. It's important to note that all active club members automatically participate in the prize draw.
The library center in Höschbach has been an active participant in the "Summer Vacation Reading Club" since 2010. The club encourages young readers to explore a variety of genres, including crime, action, comedy, fantasy, romance, and friendship stories.
During the summer vacation, the library center in Höschbach operates on extended hours. However, on September 19, 2025, the center will be closed from 2:00 PM due to the closing event of the summer vacation reading club.
It's worth mentioning that the "Summer Vacation Reading Club" is open to students in the 5th to 8th grade, not just those in specific classes or schools. The club does not involve any advertisements, ensuring a focus on promoting reading for pleasure.
The "Summer Vacation Reading Club" is more than just a reading challenge; it's an opportunity for young people to discover new worlds, meet new characters, and expand their horizons. So, if you're between 10 and 14 and looking for a fun and rewarding summer activity, consider joining the "Summer Vacation Reading Club"!
