The School Tournament: Maintaining School Spirit in a Year Without the Traditional Event

The School Tournament: Maintaining School Spirit in a Year Without the Traditional Event

Hellgate High School is excited to announce the launch of a new tradition, the Class Cup, a week-long, point-based spirit competition designed to unify the student body and encourage healthy rivalry among the four grade levels. The Class Cup replaces the previous Golden Goat spirit competition, aiming to offer a more inclusive and comprehensive points system.

The Class Cup is the brainchild of Gus Darty, the Junior Class President, who envisioned a competition that would foster a sense of community and camaraderie at Hellgate High School. The competition will run throughout the school year, with points awarded based on spirit and participation in various events and activities.

The main event of the Class Cup is the 'Hellgate High School Class Cup Tournament of Champions', a school-wide assembly on Friday. This exciting day will feature a dodgeball tournament, shopping cart jousting, and a pie eating contest, among other activities. The majority of points will be handed out at this assembly.

Throughout the week, points will be awarded based on spirit and participation in events such as a cross town double-header basketball game against Big Sky, a pie eating contest, and assembly games. The grading rubric for the judges, who are still being contacted, is still in development.

One of the most anticipated events is the shopping cart jousting, a modified version of the popular activity that was discontinued due to injuries and damage. In the Class Cup, participants will wear t-shirts with targets and use chalk-covered pool noodles instead of the original carts.

The Class Cup is expected to be a creative new tradition for Hellgate students, providing an opportunity for students to build hype and show off their school spirit. The competition will be a yearly tradition, even in years with the Golden Goat game.

Rumors suggest that custom shopping carts are being welded by sophomore student officers, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition. Past events, such as Freezin' for a Reason, where students donate to see their favorite peers or teachers do a cold plunge, will also be included in the Class Cup.

Darty finds it a cool experience to introduce a new Hellgate tradition and is working closely with the student government to make the Class Cup a success. The Class Cup is more than just a competition; it's a way for students to come together, build school spirit, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

For more detailed information about the changes and rules of the Class Cup, we encourage you to check Hellgate High School's official announcements or contact their student activities office. We look forward to seeing the spirit and creativity of Hellgate students on display during the Class Cup!
