Trier Residents Invited to Shape 'Trier Speech' 2026
Trier residents have the chance to influence this year's 'Trier Speech' by suggesting speakers. The annual event, held on Karl Marx's birthday, will take place on May 5, 2026. Previous speakers include prominent figures like Ursula Krechel, Ulrike Herrmann, Gerd Koenen, and Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk, who discussed topics such as climate crisis, migration, and Russia's role in the Ukraine war.
Citizens can submit their suggestions by email to the Office for Urban Culture and Heritage Protection by November 9. The email should include the name of the proposed speaker and a brief explanation of why they would be suitable for the 'Trier Speech'. An expert jury, consisting of the four most recent speakers and Culture Commissioner Markus Nölle, will select the speaker from all the suggestions. Culture Commissioner Markus Nölle encourages active participation in shaping the Trier Speech event.
The 'Trier Speech' provides a platform for engaging discussions on contemporary issues. With the help of local residents, the event continues its tradition of inviting notable speakers to share their insights and perspectives.
