Unchained's Memecoin Launch on Pump.fun Compromised Within Hours

Crypto media outlet Unchained joined Solana-based platform Pump.fun on September 29, 2025, enabling the creation of a tradable memecoin tied to its brand. However, within 24 hours of launch, the platform's Dexscreener page was compromised, redirecting users to a malicious site.

Unchained framed its move to Pump.fun as an experiment in crypto-native distribution. The platform is known for powering memecoins and live-streamed content from creators. By joining, Unchained allowed users to create and trade a memecoin associated with its brand.

The SEC, which had previously stated in February 2025 that memecoins are not considered securities, reiterated its priority of crypto oversight on the same day Unchained debuted. Regulators are aware of platforms that blur the lines between media, speculation, and tokenization. However, there is no information available about who represented Unchained on Pump.fun before the hack in January 2026.

Unchained has no plans to sell, hype, or promote the memecoin tied to its brand on Pump.fun. Despite the security incident, the SEC's stance on memecoins remains unchanged. Stricter crypto oversight is expected as regulators aim for harmonization.
