South Ural State University Wins Grant to Establish Industrial Robotics Center

South Ural State University has been awarded a grant as one of four winners in a competition to establish Centers for Industrial Robotics. The grant, worth nearly 319.3 million rubles, is part of a larger government initiative to subsidize industrial robotics in Russia.

The competition, announced by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade on August 2, attracted 28 applications from universities and companies across 18 Russian cities. The Chelyabinsk Region, where South Ural State University is located, showcased its innovative potential at "Innoprom-2025" in Yekaterinburg.

The Chelyabinsk Region has been at the forefront of this initiative, having created 22 centers under the "Professionalism" program, more than any other region in the country. Of these centers, 20 are educational-production clusters, providing a strong foundation for the integration of robotics into industry.

Governor Alexei Teksler reported to President Vladimir Putin about the development of the Chelyabinsk Region in mid-July. The region's efforts were also praised by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during his visit to the Chelyabinsk Region's stand at "Innoprom-2025."

The grant program is part of a broader effort to support Russian manufacturers of industrial robots and components. The program aims to introduce more than 100,000 industrial robots into Russian companies by 2030, improving technological processes. The subsidies and grants are scheduled to begin operation in 2026.

While the exact timeline for disbursement to South Ural State University is not detailed, the overall grant program started its subsidy provision in 2026. The grant will likely be used to establish an industrial robotics center and integrate robots into Russian industry as part of the Priority-2030 program and other strategic technological leadership initiatives.

This is not the first time a grant of this nature has been awarded. A similar grant was first awarded to a company in Perm in November 2024. The Chelyabinsk Region, with its strong track record in the "Professionalism" program and its commitment to industrial robotics, is well-positioned to leverage this grant to drive innovation and technological advancement.

In the Chelyabinsk Region, a total of 177 engineering classes operate, providing a skilled workforce to support the implementation of the new industrial robotics center. This development is a significant step forward in the region's ongoing efforts to strengthen its position as a leader in technological innovation.

  1. I'm not sure if the exact timeline for disbursement of the grant to South Ural State University has been specified, but the overall grant program started its subsidy provision in 2026.
  2. The grant, awarded to South Ural State University, is part of a broader initiative that aims to introduce more than 100,000 industrial robots into Russian companies by 2030, which involves finance, industry, education-and-self-development, and learning.
  3. The Chelyabinsk Region, with its well-established 20 educational-production clusters under the "Professionalism" program and its commitment to the aerospace industry and robotics, seems ready to leverage this grant to drive innovation and technological advancement in the finance sector and broader economy.
