New Fire Safety Education Tools for Children: Kamishibai Picture Stories
The Association of Fire Brigades in North Rhine-Westphalia (VdF NRW) and Provinzial have taken a significant step forward in fire safety education for children, making available two new Kamishibai picture stories focused on "Recognizing Hazards" and "Correct Behavior in Case of Fire."
These engaging stories, developed by Neuss author Alina Gries, are now available for free download for fire departments. The VdF NRW and Provinzial believe that vital knowledge can be effectively conveyed in an interesting, exciting, and playful way using the Kamishibai storytelling theater, a traditional storytelling form from Japan where picture cards are inserted into a wooden frame to support a story.
The new picture stories are intended to be used in fire safety education for children in kindergarten and primary school age. They have been particularly successful and are now a fixed component in all fire protection boxes handed over to fire brigades.
The Association of Fire Brigades in NRW has made the new moderation cards for the Kamishibai storytelling theater available to fire brigades easily and quickly. These cards make it easier for storytellers to present the stories in a clear and engaging manner.
