Upcoming Year of Vocational Professions: Kazakhstan to Stage 12 Domestic and International Events

The Year of Vocational Professions in Kazakhstan is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the prestige of working professions, developing human capital, and supporting economic growth. This year-long campaign focuses on various sectors, including construction, education, and employment, with a strong emphasis on vocational education and youth engagement.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov highlighted the crucial role of construction in the economy, reporting a growth of 18% in construction work in 2025 and substantial commissioning of residential, educational, and healthcare infrastructure. Recognition for professionals in this sector is reflected in the new honorary title "Honored Builder of Kazakhstan."

Initiatives supporting vocational education and youth engagement are evident in events like the Republican Youth Rally in Akmola region, which gathered over 100 young people to discuss vocational futures and skill improvements. The government is also focusing on creating 3.3 million jobs by 2030, with a particular emphasis on employing 2.3 million young people.

To monitor job creation efforts and employer accountability, the government has developed the Innovative Project Navigator system. This tool is designed to track the effectiveness of job creation and ensure compliance with commitments.

While specific details about Samruk Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund’s plans for the Year of Vocational Professions were not found, it is clear that the fund, which employs over 255,000 people, will play a significant role in strategic investments supporting vocational and industrial development.

The first event of this year-long campaign, called the City of Vocational Professions, will take place in Astana in February. This five-day event, held at the EXPO exposition center, will showcase future careers and cutting-edge technology in various sectors. The City of Vocational Professions is expected to generate more than 64,000 jobs and will feature pavilions dedicated to prominent sectors of the real economy, with large corporations and industrial groups from all areas participating.

In addition to the City of Vocational Professions, Kazakhstan is hosting 12 major national and international events this year, all aiming to highlight the importance of skilled labor and the opportunities available in various vocational professions. With a need for 5,000 specialists within Samruk Kazyna, this year is a crucial time for the country to focus on the enhancement of the status and prestige of vocational professions and the development of human capital.
