Utah Tech Nursing Students Experience Global Transformation Under SGT University's Global Connects Program
Nursing Students from Utah Tech University Gain Cross-Cultural Insights through Collaborative Program at SGT University
From May 5 to 16, 2025, SGT University in Gurugram hosted 13 nursing students and two faculty members from Utah Tech University, USA, as part of an intensive, two-week international exchange program. The event brought together students and academics to share knowledge, specialists in the Indian medical system, and immerse in cultural experiences.
Throughout their stay, the visiting nursing students delved into the rich tapestry of India's multifaceted healthcare system. Their academic journey encompassed field visits to a leading partner hospital in Gurugram, interactive sessions at SGT University's specialized departments such as Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Yogic Sciences, Panchakarma, and Clinical Psychology. In addition, nursing trainees received advanced training through high-fidelity simulation-based modules at SGT's world-class National Reference Simulation Centre (NRSC).
The program extended beyond academics to include hands-on workshops, where students gained practical experience in practices like mud therapy, chromotherapy, and preparing Ayurvedic meals devoid of fire. Moreover, a dedicated session on Rasa Shastra introduced them to the fundamentals of Ayurvedic medicine formulation, allowing them to actively partake in preparing herbal remedies in the university's pharmacy lab.
Prof. (Dr.) Hemant Verma, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of SGT University, expressed: "SGT University strives to cultivate not only academic brilliance but also global citizens who lead with empathy, cultural intelligence, and clinical competence. This exchange embodies our vision of merging tradition and innovation, transcending borders for learning and growth"
Beyond the classroom, students were introduced to India's cultural heritage through visits to iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal, Akshardham Temple, and Connaught Place. They also took part in lively campus activities such as Mehndi application, a cricket match, canvas painting, rural immersion at Rangmanch, and a high-energy Bollywood DJ Night, all coordinated by the Student Welfare Centre.
Bri Barben, a nursing student from Utah Tech University, remarked: "My experience at SGT has been extraordinary. One of my favorite aspects has been exploring the diverse departments, particularly yogic sciences and naturopathy. We've learned so much about the Indian medical system, which has been astonishing."
Madison Jonson, also from Utah Tech University, concurred, stating: "My experience at SGT has been enlightening. I've been gaining valuable knowledge, from Ayurvedic medicine to yogic experiences, and it's been a delight to meet fellow students."
The program concluded with student presentations comparing nursing practices in India and the U.S., followed by a festive valedictory ceremony that celebrated achievements, camaraderie, and cross-cultural growth among participants. This collaborative initiative positions SGT University as a regional hub for global collaboration in education, healthcare training, and diplomacy, broadening the horizons for students beyond classroom confines.
