VSU Introduces Apple Basecamp Training for Mac and iPad Learning Resources

Visayas State University (VSU) in Baybay City, Leyte, announced a collaboration with Power Mac Center to launch the university's inaugural Apple Basecamp Training. This initiative aims to equip VSU faculty members with the necessary skills to utilize MacBook and iPad learning tools effectively.

Dr. Ulderio Alviola, chairperson of the Department of Development Communication (DDC), expressed the department's vision to establish an Apple Lab Studio as a stepping stone toward attaining Apple Distinguished School recognition. Following the training, VSU will be the first state-run university in Eastern Visayas to have certified Apple Teachers.

Power Mac Center, the Philippines' Apple Premium Partner and the biggest Apple device distributor, conducted the Apple Basecamp Training from May 26 to 27, 2025, at the VSU Smart Classroom Building. The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Ma. Rachel Kim Locayon-Aure, head of the Office of the Director for Instruction and Evaluation (ODIE).

Locayon-Aure expressed her excitement about the certified Apple Teachers in Eastern Visayas and plans for future collaborations. Both VSU and Power Mac Center share a belief in the potential of Apple systems for education, creativity, and productivity.

Dr. Alviola expressed gratitude to the resource persons, Joseph Kelvin Regla, Jean August Galsim, and Krisstofer Quemquem, for their valuable insights into the power and functionality of the Apple ecosystem. The partnership with Power Mac Center will also provide VSU with the Apple Learning Experience for Educators and Students, which involves lending 50 iMacs and 50 iPads to the university.

Moreover, VSU faculty, staff, and students can avail themselves of "generous education discounts" at all Power Mac Center branches nationwide when purchasing a MacBook or an iPad. This collaboration is a significant step for VSU in its pursuit of innovation, creativity, and digital literacy, ultimately aiding in its vision of becoming an Apple Distinguished School.
