Youngsters embark on an exploratory journey from Rhönbier to Rhönlied, a preschool excursion.
The historic Rhönbrauerei in Rhönstadt is celebrating its 150th birthday, and a group of special guests were invited to join the festivities – the children from the Kaltennordheimer Grund- und Regelschule. Accompanied by their teacher, Katja Schramm, the young learners embarked on a unique educational journey, learning about the brewing process of Rhönbier.
The day began with a visit to the local history museum on the castle courtyard, where the children were guided by Gudula Theiß from the history club. Instead of a typical modern-day school lesson, they experienced a glimpse into the past, learning about classroom life a century ago.
Following the history lesson, the children were treated to a tour of the Rhönbrauerei, led by brewmaster Julian Reukauf and his family. The tour provided a hands-on opportunity for the young visitors to learn about the specific ingredients used in the production of Rhönbier and the traditional brewing process.
Among the young attendees was Rosa Reukauf, a pre-school child who is part of the eighth generation of the Rhönbrauerei family business. The day was filled with excitement and learning, as the children sang the "Rhönlied", a song written by Andreas Fack, who visited Rhönstadt in 1885.
Interestingly, the Kaltennordheimer pre-school group, known as the "Wilde Pferde", had performed at various events as part of the Rhönbrauerei's 150th birthday celebrations. The group, named after a popular children's book, added a delightful touch to the festivities with their poems and songs.
As the day came to a close, the children left the Rhönbrauerei with a newfound appreciation for the rich history and tradition of the brewery. The 150th anniversary celebration was not just a celebration of beer, but a celebration of the community's history and the continued legacy of the Rhönbrauerei.
The educational journey for the children continue beyond the brewery, as they delve into the history of their town's lifestyle and traditions. Later, they engage in a discussion about the significance of education-and-self-development, using the Rhönbrauerei's 150th birthday as a case study to understand the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
